Going BIG in Big D!

Going BIG in Big D!

by Danny Summers

Do you know The Fall Event 2024 is heading to Dallas, Texas this September? If you don't know, either I have not been doing my job, or maybe you have not been reading GROUPtalk, or seeing any of my mountain of emails with my signature line to shout the event dates, or perhaps you have been distracted by other things. In any case, you know now!

I will begin by revealing the initial details below and will be sharing more of the entire program in the coming weeks. There are a few important things you should know now before you start considering your travel plans.

  1. Sunday afternoon: We have a special Early Bird Marketing Workshop.
  2. Monday morning: We will have John Kennedy's Emerging Leaders 2.0 at 9am and a Sponsor Showdown at 11am (with lite lunch) before our official start at 1pm
  3. Thursday morning: We will wrap up by 11 am to help you catch your flight

Now, here's more...

Hearing the term "Big D" can easily be associated with Dallas. Whether you grew up watching the TV Hit Series Dallas chronicling the lives of the Ewing Family from 1978-1991 (I can hear the theme song now), or have been a Cowboys fan at some point in time, most likely you think the same when you see or hear the term "Big D.". While we may think "Big D" is a relatively modern acronym for Dallas, it began much earlier. In fact, the name "Big D" first appeared in the Dallas Morning News print in 1933. In 1950, it eventually became the title of a famous column by one of its writers, Paul Crume.

Crume, described as "the Mark Twain of Texas," was one of the paper's most noted writers and his "Big D" column ran from 1948 to 1975. One of his most-read editions was "Angels Are Among Us" (1967). And in his book "A Texan at Bay" (1961), he wrote:

“Outsiders never understand that Texas tall talk is not a lie. It is the expression of the larger truth.”

This last quote helps us introduce The Fall Event 2024 and why I am convinced this will be one of our best Fall Events... ever. Or at the very least, set a new expectation bar for Fall Events.

By the way, if seeing for yourself the TV home of the Ewings and all of their Dallas Series family is on your "to-do" list, it was filmed at Southfork Ranch. It's a real ranch located about 25 miles northwest of our hotel and it is open for tours. Today, it appears the area growth has closed in on the once sprawling acreage we all remember. That's progress for you.

Just don't expect JR or Bobby to be showing you around.

And, if you want a hear the Dallas Theme Song and watch the introductions and credits from its debut on April 2, 1978 in Season 1, click on video below...
