New and Updated Employment-Related Forms

New and Updated Employment-Related Forms, Documents, and Posters for Garden Center Group Members

from Jean Seawright

Just in time for the spring season, Seawright & Associates has provided a variety of new and updated forms, documents, and posters that are now available under the Human Resources section of Power Tools! Check out their Ideas for Sourcing (recruiting) Talent handout.

[Hint: Jean Seawright said to pay close attention to numbers 3, 6, 7, 8, 13, and 15 on this list. They can make a big difference in your ability to attract talent!]

And, you’ll want to share the updated Interviewing Words for the Wise with hiring managers, along with Seawright’s General Interview Questions and Questions to Avoid During Interviews. If you plan to adopt a bonus or commission plan, be sure to review Components of a Written Commission or Bonus Plan first.

As you may know, if your garden center has 50 or more employees in 20 or more calendar workweeks in the current or preceding calendar year, it is covered under the Family & Medical Leave Act. If you’re one of these employers, you’ll want to print and keep on hand a copy of Seawright & Associates’ FMLA Process that provides a step-by-step guide for administering FMLA leaves to eligible employees. All of the forms you need to administer an FMLA leave are located under the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Forms section of Power Tools. If your business is a covered employer, be sure you also have the federal FMLA poster hanging in your workplace. The poster can be downloaded from the Federal Employment Posters section of Power Tools.

If your business is not covered under the FMLA, check out the Sample Non-FMLA Medial or Personal Leave of Absence Policy.

Speaking of which . . . you’ll want to ensure you have the most current federal notices posted in your workplace. These are all located under the Federal Employment Posters section of Power Tools. (Please note that these are only the federal posters. Depending on your location, you may be also be required to post employment-related state and/or county notices/posters. Also, your business may not be required to post all the federal posters provided. For example, if you do not participate in E-Verify, you are not required to post the E-Verify Participation or Federal Immigrant and Employee Rights posters.)

In addition to the above, Seawright & Associates is in the process of finalizing an arrangement with a new background check vendor to provide background checks at a reduced rate to The Garden Center Group members. The new vendor offers more and different options for background checks than the current vendor (that you can still retain). Keep an eye out for information about the new vendor, hopefully in next week's GROUPtalk.

There are many documents and a wealth of information from Group Service Providers under Power Tools. As a member, you have exclusive access to these tools as part of your membership. We hope you’ll take advantage of this valuable member benefit!

If you have any questions, let us know!

Jean
