What Happens If We Don’t?

What Happens If We Don’t?

by Sid Raisch

It’s time to get some things done, don’t you think?

With political uncertainty in the air (again), we need to take control of those things which we can control – our own decisions in our own business. This provides a sense of sensibility in our lives, as well as those of our team members and customers.

What are you working on doing before spring? What should you be thinking of doing?

  • Painting?
  • Building new fixtures?
  • Changing store layout?
  • Updating the bathrooms?
  • Expanding a department? (Houseplants anyone?)

In most companies there is no shortage of things to do, only the inadequate cash at this time of year to do them all. Please be the person in your company who will ask the strategic questions;

“What could happen if we would finally get around to doing _______________________________________________?“

And,

“What will happen if we DON’T do/change/add _______________________________________________?”

Of course, if the outcome will be bad, you won’t proceed. But if it will be good, will you? Really? Then why have you not yet done those things that seem to take up permanent residence - on your to-do list?

If the answer to what will happen is “nothing really” ask yourself, “if nothing happens then why are we in business?” Nothing is what happens when nobody does anything very significant.

“When nothing is done, it doesn’t mean nothing happens”.

Nothing is a vacuum. Something will happen when nothing is done. Barnacles will grow on the bottom of the boat. Cobweb’s will begin to show up in the corners and around the light fixtures.

What do you want to do?

What are you going to do?

(Answer these two questions - right here, right now!)
