YES! You can leverage the Network

YES! You can Leverage the Network

by Sid Raisch

Undeniably, the best part of The Group is YOU, when connected with other members. At Fall Event 2018 I shared with the group a presentation on connecting with each other at a deeper level in order to achieve the full benefit of this best part of The Group. Please read the rest of this, then review the presentation slides at the link provided below, before acting on the ideas I’m asking you to implement today and tomorrow.

No matter why your company decided and continues to decide to be involved with The Garden Center Group, or any other organization you connect with – the primary benefit is in the value of your connections there.

Please play along with me on this idea a few minutes. (Remember, read this whole article before you start.)

  1. Write down the names of three specific people (members of The Garden Center Group) you can connect with between today and tomorrow, along with what you hope to gain from your relationship with them?
  2. But first, write their names on the second list, and your thoughts on how, specifically, you can contribute to their success. You can write something you already know you can do for them or ask them when you talk with them.
  3. You may initiate contact however you wish (email, phone, text, Messenger, etc.) but please try your best to use your first effort to align on a time to talk by phone for at least 45 minutes each.
  4. Here’s a starter idea – Look at the WDR report for each of the individual’s companies and come up with some questions that you’d like to ask, and some information you can share with them that may be of benefit to them. For example, if their sales or margins were particularly good in a category ask about that. And be prepared to share how your best category performance is achieved.
  5. After you talk, follow through on the effort. Please share with Danny Summers the result of the process and indicate whether or not you give him permission to share your comments back to The Group either with names or anonymously. [email protected]
  6. Okay, now review the presentation slides at the link BELOW, then come back, re-read this article, and DO THE THING I’m asking you to do.

Before I go please know that Danny Summers is the ultimate connector of people and ideas. He’s brilliant at this and has been extremely helpful to me over the 25 years or so that I’ve known him. Thanks Danny! If you have any trouble figuring out who you could contact send him an email to align on a time you and he can talk to get his help making some connections.

Now go take advantage of your “best of the group” benefit and make those connections.

Sid is a consulting Service Provider to The Garden Center Group and also serves as President/CEO of Bower & Branch. Sid has been inventing and reinventing the way things “don’t get done” into “get it done” strategies that increase profit-ability, market-ability, oper-ability, and owner-ability of garden centers, landscape operations and a few wise suppliers of plants and products. It’s not 38 years of the same thing, it’s thirty-eight increasingly effective years dedicated to improving and re-inventing the inter-dependent horticulture supply chain. He’s constantly challenging “that’s how we do it”, “we tried that”, and a dozen or so other excuses. Sid knows how to get people to get things done by overcoming underlying attitudes, fears and lacking resources. When you read Sid’s articles or hear Sid talk “put your ears on” and listen up, and get ready to think and implement changes that will take you and your company to new heights and new places.

REMEMBER: Your interaction (by phone and email) with Group Service Providers such as Robert Hendrickson, Steve Bailey, Sid Raisch and Jean Seawright, are included in your retainer!
